After a call on Monday, February 3, about which we know nothing, it is announced that Mexico will reinforce material support for the immigration and drug trafficking objectives of the US. Ten thousand more soldiers on the northern border to stop migrants.

What did Mexico get?

One month.

During the entire month of love and friendship, tariffs will not be applied.

And after?

Who knows.

Trump gets what he wants from Mexico with ease. The weakness of this government does not come only from him and his characteristics. The previous government also gave in with singular ease.

In statements by the president of Mexico herself, it was he, Trump, who decided that the tariffs would remain in suspense for a month.

Oh, but yes: the president of Mexico says that Trump “was interested” in the campaign that the government has against the consumption of fentanyl.

The USMCA was a table that balanced the actors in the region.

It is obvious that it is no longer. The balance that the treaty gave for thirty years, the level of equality that gave the treatment between the USA and Mexico began to deteriorate rapidly with López Obrador. And all the logic contrary and opposed to this equality was crowned with Donald Trump.

The nationalist Trump managed to get his country to impose its superiority in the region against the logic of instruments like the USMCA.

The nationalist Obrador managed to make the disparity between Mexico and the USA play against Mexico despite the USMCA.

So Mexico was the author and the destroyer of the apparatus that began to balance the relationship between the USA and Mexico.
